Laser-Based Length Encoder Provides Length and Speed Measurement of Extrusions

A noncontact laser-based length encoder is designed to provide accurate length and speed measurement of plastic extrusions. The LaserSpeed measurement device is delivered permanently calibrated and offers measurement accuracy within 0.05%, which makes the system an estimated 10 times more accurate than traditional contact-type measurement systems for extruded products, according to its manufacturer. Because the encoder does not touch the extrusion, it cannot make disfiguring marks on it. Another advantage of the laser device over mechanical encoders, according to the company, is that it does not wear out and require maintenance.
