A multiaxis swivel head provides multiple machining options for orthopedic components such as implants, bone plates, and hip sockets. In one setup, the FZ 12 K S performs high-precision, automated, six-sided machining from bar. The machine has a swivel head, full-turning spindle with a 65-mm bar diameter capacity, and seven computer numerical control axes. Via synchronous technology, the axes accelerate with up to 1.5 g to a maximum speed of 75 m/min. The motor spindle accelerates up to 24,000 rpm in 1.2 sec. The chain magazine is available with 24, 48, or 64 tool places and tool change takes 0.9 sec. Swiveling ranges from –10° to 100°. It takes 0.5 seconds to swivel from 0° to 90°.
